Well, quite.

I can empathise with your recent experience, Retroid - as I'm sure you can appreciate.

The legendary Miskie once summed things up very nicely: Forums are not a democracy, they are a dictatorship. Ultimately, the clashes of the nature you describe tend to come from trying to fit that square democratic peg into the forum's round dictatorial hole. A lot of grief, it seems, stems from people's assumptions about how something is meant to operate versus how it actually operates.

In your comment you demonstrate the harder option of changing your own behaviour than expecting the behaviour of those around you to be changed. It can be harder than it sounds!

It's for these reasons that I set up alternative communities that I had a genuine say in how they were run rather than hoping my suggestions might be heard. Even then, things can go quite .. Animal Farm.

I wonder if I should set up a forum on this site? :)

As for your closing comment. In my opinion, people on forums don't always want to discuss a topic. They prefer to have their opinions validated by others. This, I think, tends to go hand-in-hand with the maturity of the members of the community.

Haha! Just had an incredibly similar problem with TGN where if you post something somebody disagrees with; they can give you negative reputation points rather than posting back and creating a debate. It boggles my mind just how against the idea of a forum this is, it's also incredibly lazy and a bit cowardly.

It supports the common opinion, they had a vote whether to change it and because it fundamentally supports the majority of posters - the result was that it should (unsurprisingly) stay. Plus I was up against the mod/admin so I expect the colour of their noses to a slightly darker shade of brown.

So after I returned from watching England, I left and it was the best drunken decision of my life!

Honestly what's the point of a forum where showing a different opinion is discouraged?

I too have only recently experienced Batman: AA, great fun - much better than I expected anyway. I liked Condemned, it's got an amazing atmospere but then again I don't know what I'd make of it if I went back to it.

Glad to be of service old friend.. shame you had to leave early on Sunday, but the library will still be there should you wish to avail yourself of any titles in future (I could post them, but then there'd be less excuse to eat drink and be merry - other than you and Lady Koff's excellent company that is) ;)

Haha, you need not worry about the reproduction of your content etc.
And I can also assure you I'm a older, wiser (pfft), and less Nintendo-worshiping person than the last time I commented. My intention was not to pick at old scabs.
Frankly, I agree with you in that no technology can make a bad game good. And that thus far motion control has largely functioned as a gimmick. But all it takes is a few creative developers to completely change that.
Copying your competitor (copying isn't the best word choice), so long as it isn't straight up copyright violation, is a natural force in the gaming industry. Gaming thrives on taking what one company has done, making it your own, and perhaps even improving on it.
However, it inevitably leads to fans releasing pent-up aggression in the direction of their preferred companies competitors. But hey, can't let Nintendo have all the casual gamers.

Hello again Thyson. Long time no see.

I've not really followed the PlayStation Move controller developments as, from everything I've experienced, the motion-control revolution is a total misfire when it comes to adding enjoyment to gameplay or in bringing any genuinely new gameplay concepts.

Based on the reactions I've seen (and your timely comment), it looks like people have been waiting since 2006 to point the finger and cry 'copycat' all over again. But let's not pick at old scabs eh? I'm sure those that can only think back as far as 2006 wouldn't want to be reminded of a whole load of EyeToy motion games (including multi-sports titles) that came out before motion controls were 'invented'.

I'm still a non believer. Gameplay is in the game, not in the controller. I think the last three years or so have shown us that motion controls will not save a bad game from being bad.

On the plus side, the more people having a stab at making motion control worthwhile the better. Maybe a truly motion-control specific killer app will appear.

I shan't be holding my breath.

Oh, and Thyson, I do hope that my comments and site content won't be reproduced elsewhere without my permission. :)

This commment doesn't exactly fit in with the content of this article but I had a gaming related issue that I was curious as to what your opinion was.
It was a long long time ago (a couple years?) and when the Wii was first announced you made the comment that the Wii looked like something that Apple would make and that Nintendo should get some original ideas.
Any thoughts on the Playstation Move controller?

I just recently found this nice little website about a month ago and along with Kotaku and N4G, its one of my most-visited gaming news sites. I love how there's no ads, no comments section, just a title, some pictures, and a general anime-website feel.

Glad to see people other than me using this nice little site.

February has 28 days. That's not a lot of days, because it's a short month. It looks shorter when it begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. 7 x 4 = 28. They think that February is not a month anymore.
